| Q. |
Does Donors Forum make grants? |
| A. |
Very rarely. Although we may be periodically involved with a special initiative that involves regranting funds (i.e. long-term hurricane recovery), as a general rule, we do no give out grants nor do we direct where our individual members fund.
|
| Q. |
What issues do your
members fund? |
| A. |
Our members fund all types
of issues including, but not limited to: aging, advocacy,
the arts, capacity building, children and families, civic
engagement, people with disabilities, education, the environment,
gay and lesbian issues, health, medical and scientific
research, and poverty.

| Q. |
Where do Donors Forum
members fund? |
| A. |
Many fund in South Florida,
and many provide funding outside of our region as well, including
some that fund nationally and internationally. Research
conducted by Donors Forum indicates that more than 60% of
funding from private foundations based in South Florida actually
leaves the state.
|
| Q. |
Can you help me obtain
funding for my organization? |
| A. |
No. Donors Forum
does not recommend specific organizations for funding and
does not work directly with nonprofits seeking funding.
Please see our Resources section for organizations that
may be able to offer technical assistance.
|
| Q. |
Can you help me learn
about local grantmakers? |
| A. |
Yes! Profiles
of South Florida Funders, contains the most detailed
information available about local funders, and is available
for purchase We also
periodically host Meet the Funders events. Check out our
calendar to see what’s coming up.
|
| Q. |
Can my organization
arrange a presentation for Donors Forum members? |
| A. |
No. This is one of
our most frequently asked questions, and, unfortunately,
we can’t
accommodate this request. Our program committees
select our presentation topics. In some instances,
these presentations look at specific community issues, but
do not highlight specific organizations providing services.
|
| Q. |
Can a nonprofit that
does not make grants join Donors Forum? |
| A. |
No. Membership is
limited to funders who make grants of at least $25,000
annually, and professional advisors.
|
| Q. |
Will Donors Forum
communicate information on my upcoming event(s) to its
members? |
| A. |
Unfortunately, no. However,
if a Donors Forum member is currently involved with an initiative,
we can help spread the word, at the request of the member.
|
| Q. |
May I obtain mailing
labels of Donors Forum members? |
| A. |
No. There is contact
information in Profiles of South Florida Funders for
many funders. However, we and our
members strongly urge against communicating with funders en
masse, without regard to a donor’s funding interests
or guidelines for seeking funding. Such communications
can actually hurt your chances of receiving funding. |
