Disaster Preparation and Grantmaking Resources
June through November of each year is hurricane season in South Florida. Being an effective grantmaker around disasters is imperative for our region’s funding community.
In order to be an effective grantmaker in such situations, funders must be able to ensure their own organizations' operational abilities before and after an emergency. Therefore, Donors Forum has compiled a variety of resources around disaster preparedness planning for organizations. In addition, various resources and examples of best practices are offered to help funders with disaster grantmaking, whether it be in South Florida, around the country, or internationally.
Earthquake in Haiti
On January 12th, Haiti experienced a devastating earthquake, measuring 7.0 on the Richter Scale. The quake, centered just north of the capital city of Port au Prince, is believed to have killed thousands and left millions in need of emergency humanitarian assistance.
