Earthquake in Haiti

On January 12th, Haiti experienced a devastating earthquake, measuring 7.0 on the Richter Scale. The quake, centered just north of the capital city of Port au Prince, is believed to have killed approximately 200,000 and left millions in need of emergency humanitarian assistance.

Donors Forum of South Florida has compiled information on coordinated response efforts in Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties as well as a list of members' responses to the earthquake. A list of resources including local, national, and international organizations accepting donations to aid earthquake relief efforts in Haiti is also posted. If you have information you would like to add, please contact Amanda Kah.

Since funding organizations often focus on the medium and long-term effects of disasters, Donors Forum will continue to follow the situation as it develops while paying special attention to how it may affect South Florida non-profits serving Haiti and the Haitian-American community. Please see Donors Forum's Disaster Preparation and Grantmaking Resources for general disaster grantmaking information.
