Why did Donors Forum create this Friends category?
For many years, we have offered limited services to non-funders including a funders directory, working with grantmaker workshops, and participation in our annual conference. While our main mission remains to assist funders, we believe that South Florida's nonprofit sector is stronger when we come together. To increase our collective impact, funders, nonprofits, consultants and advisors need to share their expertise and experiences.
Is a Friend the same as a Partner (formerly known as a member)?
A: No. Friends are non-grantmaking organizations including nonprofits, consultants, and professional advisors. Only funders are eligible to become Partners of Donors Forum. Our main mission is to still serve funders; however, we are striving to build stronger relationships between all types of organizations working in the nonprofit sector through our new Friends category.
What is the annual fee to become a Friend?
A. $500. Renewal is 12 months from the date you join.
How do I sign up?
A: We are delighted you are interested in joining Donors Forum as a Friend. Starting in April 2011, you can sign up directly from our website. Until then, contact Geula Ferguson at geula@donorsforumsf.org or 305-371-7944 to sign up.
Are there any scholarships available to become a Friend?
A: No scholarships are available at this time. If you are unable to become a Friend, a limited number of benefits and services may be purchased individually throughout the year.
As a Friend, how many people in my organization will have access to Donors Forum's benefits/services?
A: Up to three representatives can receive newsletters and participate in the online community. While it is up to an organization to choose these individuals, for nonprofits it is recommended these be the CEO/Executive Director, a board member and the top development staff.
How many people can attend in-person events?
A: This will depend on the specific event.
As a Friend, will Donors Forum help us by recommending potential funders for our nonprofit?
A: Donors Forum does not recommend specific organizations to funders. One of our key values and strengths is that we are a neutral convener. The Friends category is not meant to provide a platform for direct solicitation of funders. It was created to provide greater insight and information about the funding community to non-funders, and bring together funders, nonprofits and advisors to work on issues affecting South Florida's broader nonprofit sector. For when we work together, the nonprofit sector becomes stronger, and we can accomplish more.
Donors Forum adheres to a no solicitation policy at all of its events and activities. What does "no solicitation" mean?
A: While we encourage networking and sharing of ideas, Friends are not allowed to directly solicit funding or business at any Donors Forum in-person activity or through our online community.
